Adjustment & Healing Workshops

Hands on Adjustment & Energy Healing workshops with Petri Räisänen

These workshops are suitable for anyone with an interest in how the body, mind and energy are used when giving hands-on adjustments of the yoga poses and in energy healing. We focus on observing and learning the language of the body, mind and energy for therapeutic adjustments, and to develop a deep and trusted connection with the students.

Energy healing:
 - How to sense prana (energy) and the energy body
 - How to recognize the energy blocks in the energy body
 - How to channel prana to support the healing process
 - Energy and physical healing techniques
 - How to give long and short-distance energy healing
 - How to combine energy healing techniques with asana adjustments
 - How to recognize pain without touching the body
 - How to move the body without physical touch
 - How to balance your own energy after the healing work

Hands on Adjustments:
 - Safe and effective adjustments for the yoga poses in the primary and intermediate series
 - The history of the yoga adjusting
 - The art of fulfilling and gentle touch
 - The three body-mind types (kapha, pitta, vata) and how to work with them.
 - How to recognize the student's physical and mental limits and capabilities
 - How to combine asana-adjustment techniques with energy healing
 - The vinyasa-counting technique
 - Correct pronounciation of the Sanskrit asana names, numbers and mantras


Energy Healing - opening the senses towards unseen energy
We will practice several energy-healing techniques that Petri has learned from Finnish master healers, Pentti Penttilä, Pentti Mäkelä and Raimo Holtti in Kaustinen, Finland since 1986. The techniques come from ancient Finnish healing tradition called "Jäsenkorjaus" which means "Bone Setting" and is similar to osteopathy. Other techniques include herbal healing, wet and dry cupping and healing with power words (these techniques won't be the subject of this workshop). In addition to teaching yoga, Petri worked as a folk healer and naturopath and ran a natural treatment business in Helsinki, Finland from 1991-1998.

The energy-healing technique is based on sensing and locating where the flow of energy is blocked on the energetic level of the body. We then work on releasing these energy blocks, using the most natural tools: our mind, senses and the energy itself.

Students don't need any previous energy-healing experience or special skills to join in the workshop.


Asana Adjustments - More than just physical support
The main theme in this course is built on the idea that adjustments have to be more than just a physical support for the yoga positions. The ideal yoga adjustment links the aspects that make up the Ashtanga yoga tradition with the teacher's knowledge and experience of life, combining a therapeutic touch, healing treatment and a love of giving. This helps the student to build trust with his or her teacher and develops the practice naturally, as the body and mind slowly open up and obstacles are removed. Every adjustment should be safe and gentle, but at the same time strong and effective. Without an understanding of the body, psychology, posture technique, alignment, breath and movement of prana, it is not possible to accomplish a good adjustment.

In this course, we will primarily focus on poses in the first series of Ashtanga yoga, but we will also go through the most important and utilized adjustments for the second series. The poses, vinyasa, breathing and drishti following in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, as it is taught in Mysore, India.

Students don't need any previous adjustment experience to join in the workshop.


Several different body therapies
Since 1986, Petri has studied Swedish massage, Energy healing, Reiki, Reflexology, Hawaiian Shamanism and Finnish bone-setting "Jäsenkorjaus". Petri also has more than 20 years of Ashtanga yoga-teaching experience.
